If you have been assigned an Assignment writing task by the teacher, is very important that you follow the best punctuation rules and avoid making grammatical mistakes as this is the only way you can secure good marks. No matter in what part of the world you live or study, writing task is a key part of the academic process and you must take it seriously because only if you write a good paper then you will be able to pass your assessment and get the degree on time.
This article is a guide for students as it provides some key role regarding punctuation that helps students avoid making grammatical mistakes in their paper.
“It’s vs. “Its”
In most of the cases, an apostrophe symbolizes possession such as, “I took the dog’s bone.” But in many cases, the apostrophes also usually replace omitted letters like “don’t” and all this becomes very complicated in some cases for the readers to understand what you are trying to say. It is best to use “its” as the possessive pronoun and its shortened version, “it is” use the version with the apostrophe to describe a situation like, “it’s raining.” most of the students do not realize what it says and end up making the simplest of grammatical mistake in their paper.
“Who” vs. “Whom”
When thinking about both these word, it becomes necessary to arrange the sentence in the head well before it is written on the paper and see which fits in. it is not very easy to tell the subject from the object but to use an over-simplified yet good, general rule: subjects start sentences (or clauses), and objects end them. Students need to think about the situation before they use any word so that they can understand the context in which they are using them and make the right placement.
“Then” vs. “Than”
Both these words can be distinguished by a simple difference. Then is used when we are discussing something that is related to time like, “We had a meeting, and then we went to lunch.” on the other hand, that is used for comparisons like, “This meeting was more productive than the last one.” only a difference of one vowel can make things completely opposite to each other and change their meanings.
It is necessary that students follow the best punctuation rules that help them understand who to write papers free of grammatical mistakes.
